Aside from the odds and ends here and there (like the half of an apple that my son didn’t finish and then left in the fridge for several days), I don’t have a great deal of food waste to report:
- 1/2 a container of homemade sour cream
- 1/2 a bunch of Romaine lettuce
I do have some cooked quinoa, a little bit of chicken, and the ends of some celery that I need to eat up today before they go completely bad. I’m going to attempt to work the quinoa into oatmeal for breakfast, the chicken for lunch, and I guess I’ll need to chop up the celery and freeze it.
How’d you do with food waste this week?
You did great! My one year old has inspired far too much throwing away of food this week - throw the food off the highchair is the new favorite game.
Good Friday morning,
I have been thinking about how to avoid Food Waste Friday…lol. I am thinking of having A Food Save Monday and Wednesday. These days will be for hunting through the fridge to find all the left over goodies and create a meal with the food. Then maybe I can avoid Food Waste Friday. Whatch think….at the very least a soup could be made.
I think that’s an excellent idea, Kate!
If you’re resorting to dumping “food down the drain or in the trash” you need a compost heap or bin. I mentioned you in a post I just wrote on the topic here: food down the drain or in the trash: http://www.thekindcleaner.com.au/blog/food-waste-friday-what-constitues-waste/
Hi Paul, thanks for linking to my blog in your post! I totally agree that a compost heap or bin is an excellent idea! I barely have a garden, though, and I don’t have a yard, so it’s not practical for me at the time. But it’s definitely something I plan to do in the future.
